    Mission Statement

Golf is an ancient and honorable game. Many of life’s lessons and values are learned and reinforced through golf. Caves Valley not only provides the setting and facility to enjoy and pass on our love and respect for the game, but is also a vehicle to bring and enhance the values received by young people from golf. Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of young people through exposure to golf’s customs, traditions and rules of fair play. To this end the Foundation sponsors a variety of activities to: (i) introduce golf’s values to young people especially those who might otherwise never have this opportunity, (ii) assist caddies further their formal education through college scholarships, and (iii) partner with other organizations similarly focused on making a difference for young people through the game of golf.

    Brief History of the Foundation

The Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation, Inc. (formally known as the Caves Valley Scholars Foundation, Inc.) was organized in 1994 for both charitable and educational purposes to grant educational scholarships to caddies working at Caves Valley Golf Club. Sources of support for the fund included donations from Members of the Club and their guests.

In 2001 the Foundation was expanded to include scholarship opportunities for caddies at other golf clubs in the Baltimore Metropolitan area.

The Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation is further enhancing its caddie program by focusing on using the game of golf as a means to improve the lives of local youth. To date, the foundation trustees are developing partnerships with other organizations that have a similar concentration of “making a difference for young people through the game of golf.”

Foundation scholarships are awarded annually and scholarship recipients are selected by our Scholarship Selection Committee which consists of persons independent of the Club, the Foundation and the Founders. In May of each year golf clubs in the Baltimore region are contacted and announcements are made regarding our Caddie Scholarship Program.

    Scholarship Information

Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit private foundation which provides undergraduate scholarships for needy and deserving caddies at Caves Valley Golf Club or other clubs in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. If a caddie has served for a minimum of two years, the caddie will be eligible to apply for a scholarship. Each applicant shall be judged and compared with all other applicants. The final selection of Scholarship recipients rests with the Scholarship Selection Committee of Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation, Inc.

    Criteria

Requirements for nomination are as follows:

    1. Candidates must have caddied regularly at Caves Valley Golf Club or at another golf club in the Baltimore Metropolitan area for a minimum of two (2) years.
    2. Candidates must clearly establish their need for financial assistance.
    3. Candidates must have completed their junior year of high school, and rank in the upper quarter of their class.
    4. Candidates must be outstanding in character, integrity and leadership. These qualities must have been proved during participation in extracurricular, civic or community activities.

Candidates must make certain that an “official” transcript of their current grades is sent to the Scholarship Selection Committee along with the Academic Advisors Report.

All candidates who satisfy the above requirements then compete, on the basis of their overall record and financial need, for the limited number of Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation, Inc. Scholarships awarded annually. Because there are many more scholarship applicants each year then there are available scholarships, it is not possible to award scholarships to all caddies who are eligible to apply.

Applications should be submitted as soon as possible following the applicants junior year of high school.

July 31 is the absolute deadline; however, it is possible that the total number of scholarships available annually may have been awarded prior to that date.

Applications are appraised by the Scholarship Selection Committee of the Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation, Inc.
